  7.  @nicked_fenyx  Liberty cannot exist in a pure democracy. Demos-cratein, the sovereignty of the people, is achieved through elected representatives. Sovereignty rests in the hands of the people and is exercised according to the Constitution. Res Publica, the public thing or the law, provides individual liberty through law and a system of justice. This is why we don't have mob rule. We are not a democracy. We are a Constitutional Republic with democratically elected representation. It's an important distinction.

  12.  @nicked_fenyx  The "Freedoms" and "Individual Liberty" which we enjoy are provided by the security of law and Constitution which guides it, the Republic. This should not translate to any party affiliation in any way and the fact that this and the electoral college are being used as anecdotes for them is... I don't know what, but it's wrong. Our system is built specifically to prevent tyranny, including the electoral college. The DNC and GOP are too big for anyone's good.

None of it describes our form of government which is, in *fact*, a Republic. Legislative, Executive, Judicial, 3 branches, division of powers. I'll make it real simple for you. Recite the pledge of allegiance. The only forms used in legalese would be Federal government, Federal Constitutional Republic or Constitutional Republic. It's not a debate. Get your facts straight.

This is how we give a voice to the minority, whomever they may be at the time. That is individual liberty and protection from tyranny of the mob. You've completely missed the point of it.
