The UK gave France the technology to build nuclear power plants for free. Now we have to build new nuclear power plants in the UK.

@buildmotosykletist1987 I think the UK government have already ordered about 20 of them but I'm not sure they are going to be used inside the UK? I'm sure I read somewhere that they are to be deployed by the UK government but used in key areas of defense and to defend UK sovereign states like Gibraltar and the Falkland Islands etc. So the UK is not reliant on outside areas for power. I think they are only really built to support a few thousand people. (10-50K)

@buildmotosykletist1987 As far as I'm aware the only reason Rolls Royce has the designs/technology from the American government is to building them for the UK government to deploy they around the world to protect strategic UK assets. Look at the way Jersey and Guernsey had their power supply threatened by France recently. Guernsey already has its own back up oil fueled generators for emergency use but they are not cost efficient to run long term. The whole point of building these small reactors is to make them portable. So they can be used in case of an emergency. To keep key points of a city running if there is a state of emergency or the power supplies are threatened. The manufacturing is being funded by the UK tax payers.
