Nice old car ferry in San Francisco with walking beam steam engines. Retired in the 60s I believe.

I would want to see Nelsons 16 inch vs. the British 15s or US 16s.

Your first pronunciation of Oriskany was correct. You should know it. It was a battle in the American revolution. As they named a ship after it I assume we won. Too bad, so sad.

Is HMS Inflexible what you call your schlong?

The mast should come straight up through the bridge. Best place for it.

Thats why they were called tars. A cat back exhaust would help.

Agree with what I know.

The Brits would probably use Nassau as a base. The North had 20 million people the south 7 million. 5 million of those were slaves. The southern aristos were insane and their dupes followed them to their death. Lee was a traitor.

@stevewindisch7400 The only reasonable course of action the Brits could have taken was to open southern cotton ports long enough to load cotton. There is no need of blockade or invasion. Ships could have been based in Jamaca or the Bahamas. Of course most of these ports were targets of Union attack so they would probably be closed anyway. If the Brits got too close to shore the Monitors could have given them a thumping. I don't even know if Warrior would be effective in shallow water against the tiny target of a monitor while the 11 inch Dahlgrens could have made life difficult for Warrior. Repair could have been difficult so far from England. Of course they would need a coal source. The Monarchy had no interest in promoting slavery.

You might want to go to the Smithsonian and see the naval architechs models. Its modelers heaven. I seem to remember USS Mississippi from my childhood. like 6 feet long and accurate to the lifelines and dogs on the portholes. Incredible.

In my view anyone handling hundreds of pounds of high explosive should be pretty sharp.

Missouris pictures of the Kamakazi hitting it were taken by a navy photographer. I know the Army had them too.

It was way larger and better armed than anything the Brits could put ashore.

I would like to see the joint Starfleet/Klingon fleet take on the Borg. Oh and you could fight Lindybeige with butterfly swords. Careful, they are real.

Alcatraz was a Civil War era fort guarding the bay.

England had already abolished slavery. There is no chance they would help the south. The Emancipation Proclamation was designed to keep England out of the war. In any event Americans loved losing wars to England and were more than ready for a third go round.
