Yes the Death Star siren would be completely silent in the vacume of space. You are spot on there Drache. I think a steam horn would sound different than an air or electric horn. I will go with steam powered.

At the end of WWII the US allies were broke. Also the war was over. More important to spend resources on rebuilding infrastructure. No one was wanting to re arm Germany. England was on food rationing.

Hey, you have Bovingtons stamp of approval. You're right up there with the History Guy and Jingles. What more could you want? Have you thought of getting a PhD? Your thesis must largely be written.

You could get Ryans job and move onto a battleship. I'm sure the Mrs. would love it. New Jersey in the winter is lovely. Just watch out for the Wise Guys.

@Drachinifel Get the right faculty advisor and use your existing material to blow through the thesis. Beware, grad school is highly political in my experience. Kiss every ass offered. Shamelessly. Don't contradict any one. I was working on a MA in history when I found out these things to my detriment..

Could we have more cats please? And perhaps Californias bear. It would seem all naval ships would want dangerous and filthy animals roaming their hallways. Do Nimitz class have lions? They would no doubt thin out the slackers.

No one is clairvoyant, no one is all knowing. No scientist knows everything. Opinions are expressed on large amounts of research and observation and are generally more useful than those made with little research and observation. Its irritating in the extreme to see some one vilified because their statement is only 99.999% correct. A good scientist knows he must recognize new information and adjust as needed. This is the basis for hypothesis. To wit, no one has yet proved the theoretical basis for gravity. Shall we ignore it?
