  1. My sailboat has a 4:1 purchase (block and tackle) I use to move heavy objects. It multiplies input energy by 4. I assume there are bigger purchases. The main problem is the gear takes up space and you may need more headroom. Mechanics use chain drive purchases to lift engines. These purchases are all over 19th century sailing ships. I recently drug a 600 pound motorcycle with locked brakes up an incline with it. Impossible otherwise. Not too much effort.
