  252.  @mikeblatzheim2797  Well no I stand by what I said. I can't comment much about German or French cars. The French have never had a reputation for reliability. I had a French taxi in Egypt which I thought was quite nice looking. Peugot I think. The mini was and is total crap. It was the cheapest hunk of junk Morris could make to compete with the subsidized Beetle and try to get some of Englands poor on wheels. They were rust buckets. The new ones are unreliable with idiotic prices. I think the looks suck. They must have totalled those cars used in "The Italian Job". If you have ever driven a Beetle 1200 or even bigger you know what a hunk of junk that was. Once again designed for the impoverished as an alternative to shoe leather and bicycles. I love the spare tire windshield washer. My friends threw a rod one time on the freeway. My brothers Scirrocco was a POS. Currently in the US VW sales are in free fall due to low quality and high prices. Italian cars have always been junk. Rust buckets, can't run from one week to the next. I like old Alphas but I would never expect one to be reliable. The British had a class action suit against one Italian rust bucket. Lancia I think. I guess 124s were built for so long they managed to get most of the bugs out of those. Fiats were once again something for the impoverished. Oddly I own a Jeep Fiat. So far so good. Watch Top Gear UK. All driving around in massive Rovers and pickups while telling you Rovers are shit quality. I have seen Rovers with rivits showing through the body work because they forgot to putty them in properly. Of course they should'nt have been riveted in the first place. Lots of defective paint. And you may not understand the American truck market. I have no doubt you can spend $125,000 on a truck here. If you got the money they will put anything you want in it. If you wanted an F 150 to Bently conversion they will do it. $50,000 trucks are quite common here thats why everyone builds them., Guy down the street has a Kenworth pickup truck conversion. maybe $200,000. The landlord has a 70 foot tractor trailer RV conversion. Yeah trucks are idiotic but thats what sells here. If someone wants to drop dime on an F 150 they will get a 250 or a 350 or a commercial 450 or 550. See how this works. Hitler liked SSKs, so do I . There is a considerable gap between that and the 1970s when Mercedes became a thing in the US. As far as I know Americans pay twice what Germans pay for these cars. Its unfortunate we don't have any Mercedes garbage trucks running around here like in Germany. Maybe that would help people put things in perspective.

  297.  @JackBWatkins  My YT name is made up. Have lots of problems with google. I am much poorer than a CEO. I bought a 70 Eldorado and remade it as a duplicate of my moms car I street raced in high school. Thats about the only GM product I ever wanted and its fine on its own merits. Obviously not an economy champ. Special ordered a 88 Corsica with high end suspension and deleted all other oprions as a BMW killer. Getrag 5 speed. It performed well but unfortunately it was still a Chevy with parts falling off and engine stalling etc. Traded it for a 91 T Bird. The headlight switch on the Corsica was what is called a piano switch. I pushed it one day and it sprang back and hit me in the forehead. They worked the bugs out in the latter years and dumped the 2.8 V 6 I had for a 3.1. The T Bird lasted until 2 years ago then hit the wall. Floor pan, shock towers rusted out due to Ford putting jute insulation on it. Can you imagine? Once the jute blanket gets wet it stays wet and thats how you get rust. Used open cell foam for sound deadening which also holds water like a sponge. The rocker panels from the factory were covered with 3/8s inches of Bondo. By the time rust came through there was no metal left, just Bondo. Mediocre laquer paint job. Trans started leaking like a stuck pig then the final blown head gasket. I would have been willing to restore it but just did'nt have the time. Replaced by 2019 Jeep Cherokee which has been trouble free and has gotten 35 mpg. But I don't think its a real Jeep. I have done lots of trails in CO. and this thing seems like a grocery getter to me. Oh well, no complaints. I think of GM as all show and no go. They over promise on everything which is a lie. Ford seems more honest. What you see is what you get. I have owned and do Triumphs, and Saabs. At one time I thought about trading the 85 Saab and the T Bird on a demo Corvette. Probably early 90s. They wanted $27,000 for it. Its still my favorite body style. Don't care much for the Ferrari wannabe style. I set in the Chevy and it was damn uncomfortable. About 2 inches off the floor, thin seat padding. and the left front wheel well was were my left leg should be meaning you had to sit sideways. Saw the same thing on a Testarossa in Miami. Nope. I kept my cars and was happy. Even my TR 6 is more comfortable.

  298.  @JackBWatkins  I drove a neighbors new 914 once. It had the racing 5 speed which I don't like. I was driving a GT 6. Apparently the neighbor woman thought I was'nt dating enough for a high schooler and this was to prompt me to get normal. Don't think it worked. I have used several 4.0 Cherokees on trails in CO. Would be glad to get one but they are all shot and expensive. About 19 mpg max. Had a different neighbor with a 914, liked the interior. In Johnson county KS. they are an uber classers car and are routinely vandalized. I blew a turbo Carrerra into the weeds once with my Ninja 1000. All over before I even hit second gear. This neighbor started a cell phone company back in the days of the "brick". He was bought out by Sprint or someone and ascended to uber class heaven, moving to The wealthiest area of town.. I knew he had money the day he showed up with a 1941 Cadillac woodside convertible. He said only 800 made. Also had hyper expensive Italian bicycles. Back in my HS Eldorado days my friends mom had a high end T Bird like a 72 or something 429, maybe 460 white leather interior. I thought it was the equal of the Eldorado. I like what is I think 3rd gen T Birds like early 60s with the wide mouth grill. Interiors looked quite a bit like dads 66 Mustang. Other cars, Corvairs, Oldsmobiles, Impalas, Camaro, Fiero, MB 190, Nash Metro, 49 Ford, 77 Coupe deVille, several motorcycles. All my friends in the days had muscle cars so I know all about them which most kids don't. Thats the history.

  299.  @JackBWatkins  I drove a Triumph GT 6. Always overheated. Pretty crummy car but looked good. Mini XKE. Spedometers are notoriously inaccurate. Rode in a Hurst Olds on the freeway, don't recall if it had the 455, maybe earlier model. He pegged the speedo at 140 but I never felt we were going particularly fast. It was a convertible with top down. White with gold stripes. If the car had a 373 or 410 diff it could'nt have gone that fast. Kids think the muscle cars were the high end of the product line like 7 series BMWs. Of course the opposite was true. The were the cheapest of the low end. Real Americans aspired to Cadillacs and lincolns not stripped out Chevy IIs and crummy Plymouths. I was hot to buy a Cuda and do a restomod on a 225 or a 318. Prices were outrageous. Finally saw what I was looking for at the Post Office one day. What a hunk of junk. No sound proofing, tinny sheet medal, the big blocks used to twist them into pretzels. Crummy interiors plasticy. Saw a restored Challenger, still looked cheap. The original GTO was the cheapest car Pontiac had with the biggest engine they had. A friend had one. It was great. One of my favs. The Judge was a decal job. A real dog. Had another friend with one of those. They were all fun cars but probably unsafe and not made to last. Cars did'nt get disc brakes until the early 70s. 4 wheel drums were crap. No brakes when wet. I was big on bikes. Used to drag race lots of hot cars and win. I got stomped by a GT 500 Mustang and a 301 57 Chevy with fiberglas front end. They were probably Pro Stockers. Still have that bike but its nothing compared to my Ninja 1000. That thing is just unsafe. The 67 Eldorado had drums. I bet your Packard had $100,000 or more in the restoration. Its a rich mans game.

  300.  @JackBWatkins  Let me guess, your friends name is Leno. For me the main thing about being on a bike is not to relax. I have wrecked when I quit paying attention. I used to ride because it forced me to blot out every thing else. As I got older that was'nt possible. I had a girlfriend with a 1st gen Firebird OHC 6, with powerglide. A decent car but I paid attention to her. Got the TR 6 in 1976 after the GT 6 was run over by an uninsured motorist in a 73 Caprice. You know the precurser to the M1 Abrahms battle tank? Unfortunately I was inside at the time. The TR has been competition prepared with racing coils, Konis, high compression and an original Kastner S 2 street cam. It will peak at around 6500 rpm. Modified Strombergs. Mikunis would probably be better or FI. Dangerouse to rev a 2.5 as it only has 4 main bearings and they are very weak. Would like to replace with a BMW I 6 turbo. Some are using Buick 3800 V 6s. Very hard to put a V engine in a TR6 I think the beemer is the way to go. 300 Fords can be built but I don't know. Maybe a Datsun. 225 Chryslers are difficult. The TR went to a Corvette specialty shop one time for suspension work. Don't remember why. Sent by my Triumph specialist. Behind the KC Chiefs football stadium next to the abandoned Chevrolet factory. TR 6s have long stroke tractor engines so they can be driven at low RPM. I lightened my flywheel so you have to have some revs up. A friend had a 340 Duster in yellow. What a screamer. Kind of the ultimate street racer. Cheap and fast. He let me take it and his wife at 14. Great fun.
