  1. Could the auto load system of the Des Moines class be up scaled for larger guns. A final version Montana class have a firing rate of, say, four rounds per minute would have been a bit of a game changer. You could see other navies rushing to build "Montana Class Battle ships" and all existing battle ships becoming "Pre-montana Battleships". Of course WWII, Carriers as the new Capital Ships, and the whole Hiroshima thing would have to not happen.
