In the development of ironclads during the period when sails would still be needed for long ocean travel would it have been practical to have a mast go through the turret so the turret would rotate around the mast while being anchored below. With the twin layout of the guns I can see it working even if it's not as much fun as the mast being mounted on the turret. It would resolve the problem of having a mast in front of the turret.
