Oh well ... to me this all boils down to: A very paranoid Putin/Russia is deadly afraid of a flourishing thriving democratic Ukraine so close to it's doorstep in times of the internet and social media, bc average Russian and Ukrainian people had started to compare their everyday lives online; as many are related to each other by family ties. (That's also why Facebook and Instagram got blocked and demonized almost immediately). & So the average Russians got jealous and angry ... there's nothing an authoritarian dictator like Putin fears more than ~7 years of peace between wars and his own people looking at him and inside their country. I don't know, if potential NATO membership really played such a huge role in the war (maybe only initially) - bc Sweden and Finland just got the green light for future membership and Russia gets a new ~900 miles NATO border - however now, all of a very sudden, it's "no big deal" for Putin, bc he can't do anything against it and tries to save face; I can't stand the guy, he just can't be trusted. Listening to Mr Maersheimer, his tip sounded to me like we should be constantly tip toe around an abusive paranoid psychopathic Putin, bc he might snap ... he will p¡ss off enough of his own Russian people in the long run and hopefully they'll rise against him. & I hope the next Russian leader will be less brutal and paranoid, but a lot more open minded and caring..
