  12. I got HCV per blood transfusions after an accident I personally didn't even want the medical treatment for ~25 years ago at age 27. I've never had the mindset to wish to survive an accident with disabilities and lifelong damage at any costs. But me being unconscious and before the time and laws for a "patient's will", my parents signed the papers for the surgeries for me bc they just couldn't let go. Now I can decide myself and I've a patient's will. Opted out of the donation system (bc I had to in my opt out country). Even with the HCV they'd harvest my organs - except the liver I think - a fact my lovely doctor didn't tell me about when she wrote my patient's will with me; it'd have been her duty to inform me though. But I had to find out about that all on my own; due to that I started digging and I didn't like what I found. I've lost all trust in these organ stealing blood suckers cause of this eye opening experience with my current doctor...they're all in on it, at least the majority of them here in Austria/Europe and pretty sure internationally as well. Who is still thinking, that the opioid-crisis & the rise of fentanyl happened accidentally and aren't connected to the American "war on drugs"-policy is downright extremely naive or doesn't give af bc in fear of needing an organ one day. I'm left with multi disability and the HCV, I'll certainly NOT put my name onto a list for a new liver; hell no! I've never been able to settle back in into my "new body" after the accident anyways, no matter how hard I've tried to cope. Medical mistreatment also caused a lot of unnecessary issues on top of all too; these together with the HCV caused severe PTSD and major depressions. Antidepressants (and other treatments) didn't work for me at all, the knowledge of having to deal with this crap till death can't be healed with pills anyways.

  14.  @Stellalovesdandysworld7834  Agree, this is a very sensible, personal decision! - Tbh, I fully respect this huge amount of trust, you've into the other doctors besides you! As from the context of your comment I assume, you're a nurse/doctor/learning nurse or doctor/member of an explanation team/a relative/however, at least somebody personally very interested into this topic. You put tons of trust into the neurologists/medical stuff, who're making this braindead prognosis for you, if you decide to donate! Their braindead prognosis - which is a first estimation into your future development based on brain scans and other medical tests - is at the same time the first step for your dead body to undergo the "donor conditioning procedures" and this has me worried! This "donor conditioning" usually ends into successful braindead diagnosis examinations, before they're ready preparing your dead body for the explantations... This adorable trust lead to your own decision to donate. & In case of this braindead prognosis - not the real braindead diagnosis (!) yet - this would lead to your body/organs being donated. Admittedly, I wouldn't have this HUGE amount of admirable trust and have to say, you've got lots of courage doing that! Specially cause I know, in the US anesthesia isn't allowed to explant organs and you're writing this below a comment about the op's boyfriend, who's probably been in the middle of his dying process, but not necessarily "really braindead", according to the reflexes on his feet mentioned above in the op's main comment. & Yes. It's always very important to let your own family know about this important decision, as early as possible. Bc this makes it so much easier for them to decide in case of such a tragic event. You've mentioned, he's been a donor and his family didn't follow his wishes... Tbh, I can fully understand that: In Germany, as well as in the US, there're doctors sent into the schools to convince the teens to become an organ donor at a very, very young age. As far as I know, these speeches are relatively half-sided; only showing the positive aspects of donating after death. Which is questionable in itself bc nobody would burry a braindead patient, would they?!^^ They're trying to hurry the teenagers into signing up for donation asap. & Of course, the OPO wants them to sign up as a donor onto the teens' DLs. There's also a certain impression/peer-pressure, that everyone not signing up, is seen as a coward; not trusting the doctor's narrative of "braindead". I'm certainly not a religious person at all, more a spiritual one; who's accepting death... But every brain injury is as unique as each human himself/herself. - Which is the real reason, why there's still no accepted definition of "being braindead" in the western part of medicine in general!^^ I truly honestly wish, they'd put the same effort into creating artificial organs to end this endless "need for organs" of other people!!! & While I don't doubt there're certainly rare cases of real braindead patients, who can donate without a doubt, those "braindead definitions" are getting legally and lawfully stretched constantly. This entire concept of donating (willingly) is slowly, but surely shifting into most people claiming to have a right to other persons' organs; in case they'd need one/several of organs in the near future. This is a forced process of changing peoples' minds over generations by using full-blown propaganda, I don't feel comfortable with at all! That's why imo there's nothing wrong with politely agree to disagree on that. (My comment will be continued, as soon as I'm able to stop sleeping from complete exhaustion/liver. - Sadly it also takes me longer, to write in English, as usually German is my native language. There's still a huge chunk missing; explaining, why I don't see that amount of trust from my own view).

  33. I've HCV (hepatitis C), I've got it after an accident ~25 years ago and I'm living in an "opt out" country. Though I don't want a "new liver" for myself, the medical system here would take my own organs in a heartbeat; so I had to "opt out" asap. (Except my liver I guess). It's all a huge mess. I found out about that after writing my patient's will with my doctor, who also gives me the morphine against my pain (bc of my damaged liver). Conveniently, • she "forgot" to tell me about living in an "opt out" country. • She also "forgot" to tell me that my patient's will immediately END LEGALLY, if I'd have the bad luck to end up with a "braindead" PROGNOSIS (!) in a hospital. Mind you, prognosis, NOT diagnosis!!! Between the prognosis and the diagnosis there's this process of "donor conditioning" (as we call it in Europe, sorry native German speaker writing here). "DONOR CONDITIONING" means, you're LEGALLY DEAD now. That's why a patient's will is no longer legally working bc I'd be seen as a CORPSE. Only the quality of the organs becomes important now...!^^ This means gallons of water (most likely medical fluids) get pumped through the organs. & Generally the "dead" body gets prepared for a SUCCESSFUL BRAINDEAD DIAGNOSIS during this time period. (Which can last between a few hours to several days. Can't rule out weeks). If the donor has been an addict or needed pain medication: Well, bad luck for him/her, there'll be NO MORE opioids or benzodiazepines now; cause of this prognosis! & This is done AFTER the prognosis but BEFORE it comes to the REAL BRAINDEAD DIAGNOSIS. (In this time period they prepare the "corpse" pretty much the way they want it to be). I'm no professional, but I'm not surprised addicts/overdose victims/people who need pain medications are waking all the time up during this procedure. (Bet, this happens WAY more often than reported)!!! -------------------- Thankfully there's this discussing to turn Germany into an "opt out" country as well, a discussion I've heard about in Austria/Europe where I live. That's the way I found out how my own doctor did betray me. I started really digging deep into that topic. Way too deep. & I didn't like what I found... In the meantime my own doctor - not knowing what I've been finding out, digging through and knowing now - started to try to talk me into taking the great "brand new medications" against HCV ... which is entirely pointless with my liver results from 3 years ago. (I'd refused blood tests ever since, but she's a dumbass not questioning the reason why). Lol, I'll never forget her face, when I told her straight out, that the medications might be great for others, but I don't trust them or her anymore. (Sorry, I'm out of here, this still hits me emotionally & personally). Hope I could explain to you, how the drugs are being cleaned out of the organs though. This "dead body" isn't seen as a patient/client any longer; they can flush limitless amounts of fluids through that body. They use an opioid-reverser on this body. Even HCV & HIV organs are highly wanted and requested now. They're called "high risk" organs (or "marginal organs" as they're called here in the European countries). It's all a huge business and a lot of experimenting with these "high risk organs" now.
