  1. Racism and nationalism are appealing to working-class people. Its a visceral message that is easy to understand and can easily be supported by individual examples of anecdotal evidence. "Everything would be fine if it wasn't for those people!" Thats a message as old as mankind. Couple that with a media system that allows cable news to tell only one side of an embellished story and you have the makings of the Trump era
