  9. Just read on the news today that James Allchurch, a 51 year old from Pembrokeshire has been sentenced to two and a half years in prison for inciting racial hatred making online comments to the effect that white people are superior to other races in every measurable way - seems a bit harsh.

  18. @ I remember seeing a report on Newsnight back in August 1995 about the watering down of A-level maths. Standards will have fallen even further over the past 30 years as the number of people going to “university” has rocketed.

Leaving aside the fact modern “A-levels” are so debased, devalued and degraded they are now less challenging than the O-levels Thatcher abolished in the 80s, the most intellectually demanding subjects are no longer a prerequisite for medicine enabling students of lower intelligence to become doctors.

I wonder (i) when the requirement for medical students to achieve a good grade in Maths and/or Physics (the most intellectually challenging subjects) in whatever passes for “A-levels” was removed and (ii) was this particular aspect of dumbing down introduced in order to allow female pupils (who could not manage Maths or Physics) to become doctors?
