  15.  @jack_irl  The number of medical school places has increased from 5000 to 8000 since the 1980s hence the entry requirements have been systematically lowered to allow 3000 extra students to become doctors who in years gone by would not have made the grade.

  44. The entry requirements for medical school have been relaxed to enable more women to become doctors. Previously girls tended to struggle with A-level maths and physics so easier subjects became permissible.
