  33.  @Ivydolph1  Given the eye watering salaries paid to NHS doctors and consultants it is little wonder there are so many vacancies as there are insufficient funds in the kitty to hire any more. If British medics were paid the same as their counterparts in France, Spain and Italy (who all provide a superior level of service to their respective patients) we could probably afford a similar number of doctors per capita in Britain. Trying to draw comparisons with the USA and Australia won’t wash as they have completely different systems. American medical students have to pay the full cost of their education and training and do not rely on the nanny state as they do in Britain. They also have to take out expensive professional liability insurance and cannot rely on the taxpayer to foot the legal bills and compensation claims for their clinical negligence like they do in this country.

There are plenty of doctors in the Indian subcontinent who would give their eye teeth for the opportunity to come to Britain and be paid competitive world class NHS salaries. The handful of countries who pay more than the NHS can pick and choose and will select highly educated, properly trained, competent doctors which excludes the vast majority of dumbed down British medics. Doctors from other European countries tend to be bilingual (unlike the native breed) so they can compete equally for posts in the Anglosphere. Most of the doctors who are on strike demanding even more pay on top of their already inflated salaries would never clear the interview.
