Are the 12,000 patients who die in British hospitals each year as a direct result of medical errors perpetrated by clinically negligent consultants one of the ‘good reasons’ why they are ‘well paid’? Consultants pay has doubled ‘in monetary terms comparing to their predecessors’. The ubiquitous Grade A is now the ‘average’ in dumbed down Britain. The expense to British taxpayers who meet over 80% of the cost of getting someone to consultancy is ‘not average’. As real terms pay cuts only affect the low paid there is no moral or financial justification for overpaid consultants on six figure salaries to receive pay rises ‘in line with inflation’.
