@stringer-ik1pc That is just the basic salary without overtime, night shift allowance, weekend enhancements and call out charges.

NHS doctors are among the highest paid in Europe.

BLAME BOTH - THE Government should have made it illegal for them to strike.
1
@daidavies6210 because they are overpaid.
1
@daidavies6210 to bring them into line with other essential services like police, prison officers and the army.

@chilli2043 Where’s the money coming from?
1
@apemoon1731 Their productivity has fallen but they want a 35% rise.

@ns12-34 NHS doctors are among the highest paid in Europe but provide one of the worst services in Europe. British taxpayers are getting poor value for money.

@VirtuosoGT Australia can pick and choose and will select highly educated, properly trained, competent doctors which excludes the vast majority of dumbed down British medics. Doctors should never receive unconditional index linked pay without any increase in productivity and it is economically illiterate to suggest that a sub inflation pay rise amounts to a pay cut. Their buying power may have reduced as things get more expensive but their pay has increased. They should learn how to budget.

@EnterTheSoundscape Jeremy Hunt should have made it illegal for them to strike after they held him to ransom in 2016.
1
@avid8921 because the government afford them that privilege and they are treated as a special case.
1
@againstas 98% of doctors have nowhere else to go.
1
@againstas Anyone can become a doctor in dumbed down Britain.
1
@Eab11375 Their economically illiterate argument does not stand up to scrutiny.

1
The doctors are already overpaid.
1
@daidavies6210 Try telling that to the families of the 12,000 NHS hospital patients who die each year as a result of doctors basic medical errors.
1
@humanwhodoesstuffindeed Doctors are overpaid.
1
@molsy1768 Doctors have nowhere else to go.
1
@EnterTheSoundscape Spot the economic illiterate.
1
@ns12-34 I am more concerned with the human rights of patients than the human rights of the new incompetent breed of dumbed down British medics.
1
@EnterTheSoundscape Doctors are not leaving the NHS en masse - that is BMA propaganda. Only a very small percentage of doctors leave the UK to work abroad each year.
1
@ns12-34 US doctors have to fund the full cost of their tuition and training and can’t rely on the nanny state as they do in Britain. Neither do they retire early on taxpayer funded, gold plated, index linked pensions.
