  1. Imperial measurements in Engineering is a headache. NASA notably went primarily metric approx 20 years ago when there were some very expensive mistakes made. Mars climate orbiter in 1999 and others. Are there any car makers that don't use metric? Even my 1945 Austin uses metric wheel bearings. Metric bearings use a standardised system so are cheaper to buy and easier to obtain. The persistence of using imperial for road speed etc is just belligerence. I am in New Zealand where all measurements were changed at once in 1976 when I was half way through school. I work as an Engineer and some of our gear is old, so a lot of old legacy imperial stuff. Thank goodness for digital calipers and calculators.
