Some of us have never taken religion seriously but it can be a shock to those whose eyes have been opened as appears to be the case with you. I hope you do well. Sometimes a confrontation is necessary but in other occasions a softer approach can be more constructive.

  2.  @ॐIo  The only one of those actively quoted a belief (or lack of) was Hitler who actively promoted Christianity. Those that persecuted religion merely saw it as a threat to their power. Of course the central purpose of religion (particularly monotheist ones) has been power and control.

  8.  @Neko.Virtual  One can help the poor etc. without the need for the trappings of religion. Laws and health systems are at their best in secular countries. The god of the bible is an immoral monster and hardly something to look up to.

  10. ​ @Neko.Virtual  You acknowledge secular offer more freedoms. The christian church (pre 1900) in what are now secular countries had a great deal of influence and power. This has since waned. For the good of the countries and their people. Note the Christian churches fought against this freedom and is still doing so in the USA for example where they still have undue influence in politics. That is why the USA is well down the corruption index.

  11. To be openly atheist in a 19th century western christian country would have been detrimental to ones job. It was usually written in to the contract of jobs for the government eg teachers, that they must be christian. An irony as it was the universal education system introduced at that time for all classes, girls and boys that has forced the christian churches to adapt to avoid oblivion. The more successful christian denominations are those that have ramped up the fear rhetoric to keep their flock in line. Islam will go the same way.

  13.  @ॐIo  The laws formed as a result of the nature of humans. Just like other animals when we live as a social species we should behave in a manner that is beneficial to the society we are in. The ramblings of the bible are just the views of bronze age men. The least corrupt and peaceful countries are secular as the legal system has adapted over the centuries. Would you really want to live in a country taking a literal interpretation of the bible? Google "Corruption Perceptions Index"

  14.  @ॐIo  It is not relevant how the universe started. Maybe scientists will prove how it happened or maybe it is not possible to do so. Even if a god did do it (prove it is yours) the suggestion that said god micromanages our lives is absurd. Certainly the moral compass of the god of the bible is disgusting to contemporary people. They represent the views of bronze age men. The ones who wrote it..... If a god was involved he would have tried to improve their moral outlook. Not just pandered to their views. Would you be happy living in a bronze age world? That is where adhering to you bible would send you if taken literally.
