Cover cropping with non-patented seed varieties needs much wider adoption across all kinds of agriculture in order to lessen dependence on industrial fertilizers.

You mean like this? March 11, 2022 - "USDA Announces Plans for $250 Million Investment to Support Innovative American-made Fertilizer to give US Farmers more choices in the Marketplace."

@robertreznik9330 - No. I am not.

@robertreznik9330 - This is why the federal funding to bring down the median cost of $12/acre is wise investment. Still, reduction isn't replacement. Using cover crops, especially erosion preventing, as any part of the cycle anywhere possible still reduces dependence and mitigates cost increases due to whatever reasons.

...or like this? June 8th, 2021 - "The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has announced plans to invest more than $4 billion to strengthen critical supply chains through the “Build Back Better” initiative. The new effort will strengthen the food system, create new market opportunities, tackle the climate crisis, help communities that have been left behind and support good-paying jobs throughout the supply chain. The announcement supports the Biden Administration’s broader work on strengthening the resilience of critical supply chains as directed by Executive Order 14017 America’s Supply Chains. Funding is provided by the American Rescue Plan Act and earlier pandemic assistance such as the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2021."

@esthermas4703 - 100% "Meeting Biden’s climate goals will require changes in our food and farming practices, such as: • Ending reliance on fossil-fuel based fertilizers and pesticides; • Protecting communities from bearing the externalized costs of industrial meat production; • Building resilient regional food systems; and, • Ensuring nutritious food gets to everyone’s plate. The EO also takes important steps toward fulfilling President Biden’s campaign promises to advance climate-smart agriculture and protect 30 percent of our nation’s land, waters and oceans by 2030 (30x30)." Biden Sets Stage for Climate Resilient Food & Agriculture by Allison Johnson & Andrea Spacht Collins, January 29, 2021 - Natural Resources Defense Council

yo boi johney - Tillage is not the concern I have. Even significant tillage combined with soil retention techniques is perfectly compatible with my suggestion to increase the use of cover cropping. I'm speaking to ecosystem and pollinator "net positive" ways to lower the herbicide, pesticide, and industrial fertilizer inputs.
