Not for the colonized, it isn't. Deliver reparations and participate in a truth and reconciliation process, or shove it with the pomp and circumstance.

@ericconnor8419 - There's a 2"x4" in your eye, my compatriot. I'll attend to the splinter in mine, don't you worry. Canada never had a shot at inheriting the ill gotten gains of the British Empire, the geographic and agricultural advantage of the continental U.S., and the highway and trade route infrastructure of the First Nations made us the chosen heir apparent quite early on. Canada would've become the tyrannical heir apparent we became if they'd had the same gifted and stolen advantages we had.

@vanpallandt5799 - Uh, no. Cut out of control subsidies and tax breaks for corporations, industries, and the wealthy and do both. Your extortion plot is a fallacy.

@vanpallandt5799 - It is an immaterial question, and frivolous except [as] a distraction from this discussion.

@vanpallandt5799 - They don't apply to me - an American benefactor of the empire with a anglo-European immigrants dating back to the colonies with military service in every U.S. war since the Revolution. But they are, by my humble estimation, due to my extended family as Southeast Asian refugees in the Indian diaspora, including many citizens of the U.K. and the Commonwealth countries.

@vanpallandt5799 - And this is relevant to my comment in what way?

@vanpallandt5799 - What part of China that was formerly a Commonwealth country or a British colony is your wife from? The CCP was never either.

@vanpallandt5799 - My reply comment cannot be construed to refer to reparations for people of mainland Chinese heritage. Therefore, I ask again, what does your raising of reparations for, or from, China have to do with this discussion? You are moving goalposts now.

@vanpallandt5799 - I am commenting on an article about the British Empire and making the point that all the former colonies and Commonwealth nations who've been harmed by the British Empire deserve a truth and reconciliation process, and reparations. You brought melanin into the discussion, not me. If you are lobbying for compensation and truth telling for China from the U.K. or anything else -- have at it. But that isn't relevant to my comment or the main context of the follow on discussion. I feel your unexamined bias may be revealing itself.

@vanpallandt5799 - I believe they have their own reparations to pay out for the millions enslaved in the past and, in some regions, even still today. Enslavement is a reason to pay out reparations, wherever it occurs.
