Beautiful resilience and resolve! We must fight anyone employing fascist tactics, abroad or at home. 🇺🇦 💙💛 🇬🇧

There's no benefit to cutting off your nose to spite your face? Who knew?

Pedestrian deaths in the U.S. are at a 40-year high. One of the major factors contributing to the death toll is the large SUVs and trucks with huge blind spots in front of the vehicles.
36
As both Garry and the US CSCE have made clear, the loopholes need to be closed in order to truly cut of the money flows. "Western complicity is an essential aspect of Russian kleptocracy, as cronies take advantage of rule of law in the West to secure assets from the East." - Commission on Security and Cooperation in Europe (CSCE)

Anyone else here still curious why conservatives in the US and the UK were so flush with Russian cash in 2012-2020? This "Bromantic" story about Johnson and Zelensky seems to have left out the preceding chapter on the Putin/Johnson Bromance that came before it.

Putin is terrified of NATO. The notion that Putin called NATO's bluff misunderstands how NATO's strength comes in no small part from its defining defensive posture. Putin wanted to join NATO, but wanted to be exempted from the requirement criteria and get special treatment in terms of timing. "Vladimir Putin wanted Russia to join Nato but did not want his country to have to go through the usual application process and stand in line “with a lot of countries that don’t matter”..."

Republicans in disarray, you say?

"Vladimir Putin is a communist the way Ted Cruz is a conservative. Now they're both just opportunists" - Garry Kasparov (via his official Twitter: Kasparov63 at 8:02 PM ET · May 22, 2021)
5
@andreanicolas9363 - I'll leave it be, but there's no monopoly on dictatorship, and all manner of religious, economic, and political ideologies have birthed dictatorships, the US's corrupted capitalism, or corporate socialism included.
5
Disinformation and smear campaigns work. Congrats on being human and susceptible.
4
@andreanicolas9363 - I didn't say anything, Garry spoke for himself in the video, and from his Twitter account. Putin has nothing to do with communism and Ted Cruz has nothing to do with conservatism is Garry's point. You shouldn't assume your liberties are being protected by a Republican Senator who refused to impeach an autocratic white nationalist leader, neither for extorting Zelensky by withholding $400 million in military aid, nor for attempting a coup and inciting a violent insurrection as a part of it.
4
They are strung out and can't keep up a ground operation on this scale for years, like they did in Chechnya, only for months. In the second Chechen war, Russia started with 80,000 troops and Chechnya is 2% of the size of Ukraine.
4
@andreanicolas9363 - We in the US have a real democracy, despite Trump and the machinations and coup attempt created by billionaire US oligarchs and fueled by the extremist ethno-nationalist 30% of the Republican party that controls it's its media narratives and cultural policies.
3
This is why it's likely that the U.S. will continue to supply 90% of Ukraine's military and defense aid.
3
@Kurwajegomac - Nope. Pedestrian caution will not overcome this fundamental design problem with these vehicles.
3
Conservatives should be appalled by the current Republican party. They are an extremist organization ready to return the U.S.A. to the rule-of-man after 246 years dedicated to the rule-of-law. 71% of Republicans believe a Christian nationalist state is unconstitutional, yet 56% of Republicans want the U.S. to be made a Christian nationalist state.
2
@vintagebollinger4439 - "Tories have taken £62,000 from Russia-linked donors since war began The donations include £50,000 from Lubov Chernukhin, who is married to Vladimir Putin’s former deputy finance minister." - 9 Jun 2022
2
Fascists the world over are targeting LGBTQIA+ people in a coordinated and often genocidal campaign. Oxfam did the right thing in speaking out for human rights at this critical time in history.
2
No, and they are using all the leverage they have now because it's temporary.
2
@sb_dunk - The defining defensive posture of NATO -- a military alliance -- is not an ethos of pacifism. I don't understand the argument that Libya disproves NATO is a defensive alliance, frankly. It's been a pet claim of Putin's for over a decade though. The UN Security Council resolution NATO was implementing was drafted to protect civilians. UN Security Council Resolution 1973 "...demand[ed] 'an immediate ceasefire' and authoriz[ed] the international community to establish a no-fly zone and to use all means necessary short of foreign occupation to protect civilians."
2
@rikulappi9664 - Regarding taking on NATO forces, the context of the comment made, Putin is terrified of NATO. Regarding the possible advantage democracy and democratic reforms in Ukraine would gain with NATO membership, I believe Putin is also very worried. Saying he's not terrified of NATO expansion is accurate, however. He simply wants Ukraine and Ukraine applying for NATO membership is the excuse.
2
@gorgon9786 - Location. Location. Location.
2
Never forget, in 2016, the Republican party took millions in Russian oligarch money laundered through the National Rifle Association. The Republicans also planned to cut funding for Ukraine if they had gained control of Congress. There are hundreds of elected Republicans who are enemies domestic of the United States of America and allies of Putin.
2
@smoggy1964 - This incident, it sure seems that way unless a health problem contributed. The blind spots are shown by research to be a definite factor increasing pedestrian deaths. The worst cases are parents running over their own children playing near their parked vehicles.
2
@Ian.. - Sh!tposts are so droll.

Ben Hodges is a patriot, and called Trump unfit to lead early on. "Surely Americans must wonder why 489 and counting former high-ranking military and national security leaders have come out publicly in opposition to the reelection of Donald Trump. It is unprecedented, especially from a group known to avoid the political spotlight. There is a loss of confidence and we now have significant concern for what could happen to our country." "President Donald Trump is unfit to serve as our president and Commander in Chief. He is a threat to our Constitution and he lacks the character, integrity and leadership skills necessary to lead our country, and the women and men of our Armed Forces and Diplomatic Corps. His every action seems to be aimed at bolstering himself, taking responsibility for nothing and listening to almost no one." - Joint Statement from three retired generals; Donald M. Campbell, F. Ben Hodges and Robert A. Mandell, Oct. 29, 2020
1
@andreanicolas9363 - Putin is an autocrat heading a kleptocracy. There's nothing communist about Putin or Russia today.
1
When do Tories clean the Russian money out of their coffers and expel the members who took and hid Russian money?
1
@emm_arr - "Tribal dullards" [chef's kiss]
1
True [he is a troll], he is also a white nationalist and an enemy of liberal democracy.
1
3 in 4 Republicans want the United States of America turned into a Christian nationalist state¹, despite knowing that it would be unconstitutional. Trump is a direct product of the Republican party, not an anomaly. ________________________________________ ¹ Pew Research polling conducted in Sept. 2022.
1
Of course it does. Putin's right-wing autocracy leverages white nationalism to distract and deploy the populace to gain power, just like the Republican party in the U.S. does. Autocracy isn't inherently right or left, but ideology is central to most autocratic regimes.
1
2:49 - On Russia's Flag Day, Putin shows the power of the activists he fears so much. "Russians against Putin are using a “new Russian flag” (white, blue, and white horizontal stripes), pushing to remove the “blood” from the Russian flag (white, blue, and red horizontal stripes). This is what a real threat to Putin looks like." - AnonNews
1
@vintagebollinger4439 - I guess if you gotta keep voting right, you can [talk] yourself into thinking wrong being right is just right.
1
@vintagebollinger4439 - In your book, market dependency on monopolist actors largely resulting from the economic and market policies of the right, justifies corruption in the right's political parties. I don't know if I'd describe that logic as simple right from wrong stuff.
1
@vintagebollinger4439 - Give the fascists my best.
1
45:00 - Hitchens does Putin's work for him. His looming irrelevance is well deserved.
1
Prighozin is not a populist, he's a mafia boss' mafia fixer. The amount of garbage posited by people with scant knowledge of Russia is astounding.
1
FFS, this is peak nonsense. Nuclear weapons haven't kept the peace, people have kept the peace despite nuclear weapons. On top of which, the "Disarm Putin" banner on the video is saber rattling incitement, not advancing the nuclear disarmament cause.
1
No. This shouldn't even be a question. Arresting anti-monarchy protesters just proves the monarchy is a backward relic of empire that continues to corrupt the UK and the Commonwealth.
1
Whether it's the Republicans in the U.S. or the BJP in India, ethno-nationalism is anathema to patriotism. Trump, Putin, Netanyahu, Orban, Erdogan, and Modi are all destructive and malign forces attacking and stealing from their own countries for personal gain. May each country's majorities kick out all their criminal cabals as expeditiously as possible.
1
@karansharoffsah3072 - It's very possible., some might even say it's inevitable.
1
Kissinger is a war criminal who betrayed the people of the United States of America on dozens of occasions, including delaying the release of the hostages in Tehran in 1979 and 1980 in order to benefit Reagan and himself.
1
Cameron is right when he joins the chorus of us demanding billionaire adventure tourism fund their own rescues with a fund they all contribute to. Taxpayers paid millions to bail-out people who notoriously rail against regulation and do anything possible to avoid paying their taxes.
1
@Mr.Monta77 - He was lying. NATO is committed to Ukraine's defense. ""There is a common budget that all NATO allies pay into," says O'Connell of NATO's direct expenses for shared headquarters and exercises. "It's about $2.8 billion and the U.S. pays 22 percent of that, not 90 percent." - FACT CHECK: Trump's Claims On NATO Spending by David Welna at NPR - July 11th, 2018 Scholz and Trump are both decades long fans of Putin who only recently calculated that being chummy with Putin wasn't as tolerated as it once was.
1
F the Coronation and F the King. The monarchy is responsible for sapping trillions from public funds more appropriate for the allocation of reparations to former colonies and current Commonwealth countries and territories.
1
Or a right-wing ethno-nationalist anywhere. From the Republicans, to the Tories, to the BJP -- the right loves Putin's wrongs.
1
@pbysome - Does trolling for Putin pay the bills?
1
Harry and Meghan are fully entitled to tell their story. We are happy in North America to have them. The level of racism and vitriol unleashed by you all at them in service to a corrupt cabal of royals is stultifying.
1
The Russians blowing up the Kharkhova Dam changes the optics of attacking military targets inside Russia dramatically.
1
Willful ignorance and arrogance are the only thing these three bring to the table. Typical Tory noise.
1
I don't buy the idea that Putin could've been mellowed by "more honey and less vinegar". The press has a dangerous habit of ignoring the depth to which white nationalism and ethno-nationalism are intrinsic to Putin's power -- as, to a less extreme degree, it is intrinsic to the Republican party and Tory party's power. In the U.K., U.S. and Europe, the white nationalism is a toxin that can't be extracted from the right-wing's rhetoric about progress against discrimination, declining birth rates, increasing of diversity, and increasing migration (in no small part due to human-induced climate change and resulting catastrophe and disaster).
1
No. But they will use the notion as a pretext to continue to bomb and strike Kyiv with missiles intended for ships as a part of their ongoing campaign of crimes against humanity and war crimes.
1
No, it's not the West's decisions that brought Russia to this point, it's the course that ethno-nationalists run as autocrats. Trump rode the wave of white nationalism in the Republican party that arose when they traded away ethics for power 50 years ago as a changing electorate found less and less reason to vote for them based on their policy proposals. Putin sowed his own fate when he chose power over progress for Russia.
1
@sb_dunk - I get you don't see that, and a good argument can be made it's not defensive. The larger point is, NATO draws tremendous strength from the collective, pragmatic and defensive nature of its structure and mission. We can feel however we want about the NATO no-fly zone and bombing of Libya under the UNSC resolution. At the end of the day, it doesn't impact the power NATO derives from its defensive alliance status, no matter how many times it's raised as a criticism.
1
@sb_dunk - And you'd by no means be alone. It's my own view that NATO is, at its best, a self-aware necessary evil. At its worst, I feel, it's complicit in wars of aggression and illegal invasions because -- based upon its peacekeeping and security missions alone -- it is relied upon by aggressor nations like the US to come in and be a major part of reconstruction after the destruction. It's complicity in my view because this is true whether it is after a war of aggression or an act of of defense and preservation of sovereignty and/or self-determination.
1
And his coup attempt and espionage will hurt him.
1
What is often left out of these criticisms of the West is the thousands of right-wing politicians who take Russian oligarch money for campaigns. In short, too many on the right are compromised. If we want to defend Ukraine, anti-corruption policies at home should be a major focus for reform. Period.
1
@mrsusan5672 - I have no idea, but wanting to show off is one element involved.
1
@SamDoyle-gc8ci - I'm adding a comment about SUVs and trucks so consumers are informed. This is a large vehicle that obscured the driver's view of the children being hit -- but no, that isn't the reason this occurred.
1
@arto9775 - They didn't need to. What did you [bring] to the discussion again?
1
The right is dead wrong. Don't vote for isolationist bigots.
1
No.
1
Putin knows nothing but threats and bluster. South Africa is on Russia's side, whether by necessity or choice. Only those already looking for a rationalization will buy this theater.
1
Putin doomscrolling isn't useful or productive, but it sure is profitable.
1
Joe Biden is the most underappreciated U.S. President since Carter. · U.S. economic growth is better than it's been in 30 years. · Wages are up. · Unemployment is at its lowest in 50 years. · Labor union organizing and mandatory apprenticeships required of federal contractors. · The most action against climate change by any country ever. And more.

Putin's Special Military Operation for the Renazification of Ukraine
1
Trump won't be President again. He is only cementing the voter blocs he already had. He is not expanding his support base.
1
The armchair Generals in conservative parties are acting like children playing with toys. Meanwhile, the unity and effectiveness of the coalition actually arming, training, and funding Ukraine in their fight against Russia is getting the job done as they continue to flex their jaws.
1
In 2014, after Russia first invaded, President Barack Obama started the European Deterrence Initiative and instantly we in the United States of America began supplying 90% of Ukraine's foreign aid for defense, security, intelligence, and military training. President Trump then used that program to extort Zelenskyy in an attempt to make Ukraine traffick a Russian disinformation campaign against the United States of America.
1
@tonupharry - Complete disarray, if you ask me.
1
Putin is dying and attempting to take Russia with him.
1
Trump is toast.
