  1. I don't buy the idea that Putin could've been mellowed by "more honey and less vinegar". The press has a dangerous habit of ignoring the depth to which white nationalism and ethno-nationalism are intrinsic to Putin's power -- as, to a less extreme degree, it is intrinsic to the Republican party and Tory party's power. In the U.K., U.S. and Europe, the white nationalism is a toxin that can't be extracted from the right-wing's rhetoric about progress against discrimination, declining birth rates, increasing of diversity, and increasing migration (in no small part due to human-induced climate change and resulting catastrophe and disaster).
