The transfer of Russia's collective wealth into the pockets of a small clot of overnight oligarchs was helped in no small part by Western financial capitals including Wall Street. Yeltsin chose Putin because Putin wouldn't crack down on corruption and expose Yeltsin and his cabal. Then Putin secretly began bombing apartment buildings and swept into office with promises to end the terrorism that he himself was orchestrating. Currently, Putin is attempting to drag Russia into the grave with him. Full stop.
