All people tend to trade security for freedom. Authoritarian regimes and political parties constantly leverage this fact about human behavior; from the Republican party in the US, to the Taliban in Afghanistan.

@pohanahawaii - All people tend to. Some are better than others at resisting the tendency.

@fvalemus5377 - The Taliban are not a problem because of Islam, they are a problem because of authoritarianism. It isn't about any belief or system other than the political structure of autocracy.

@deaththekid3998 - It's the racism. Since the policy of enslavement, the US has always had a white nationalist party. It was once the Democratic party until the Democratic President signed the Civil Rights Act and Voting Rights Act in the mid 1960s. At that point -- decades after civil liberties and the cause of the Reconstruction had been abandoned by the GOP with a big push from Hoover and the first fascist and isolationist America First movement -- the white nationalists moved into the Republican party.

@Commandotoad - Mine is a completely fair point. My statement in no way called the Taliban and the Republicans equivalents.
