@John577 - Not participating doesn't register as protest, nor does it make the government elected by the remaining voters illegitimate. The biggest investment in the U.S. since the national highway system was built is underway. The largest investment in our social democracy with the biggest gains in the bargaining power of labor groups and workers since FDR is underway. Want even more progress? Get involved. Run for public office yourself, starting as local or national as you see fit -- or work for someone who you want to see elected and/or replace someone you wish wasn't. There is no progress without engagement, and voting is fundamental.

The best things Democrats have passed are filibustered without allowing even debate by Republicans, but a simple read of any of the three versions of The For the People Act (2019, 2020 or 2021) they've passed makes clear that Democrats are passing legislation that the public demands. Looking at things that have passed in the Senate, The American Rescue Act, the stimulus bills, The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act -- all represent massive reinvestment in American social democracy and widening of the social safety net. In fact, they include landmark social democracy investments in a scale that we haven't seen since FDR and the New Deal. The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, for example, "isn’t a stimulus bill; it’s not a singular response to a specific economic crisis. IIJA represents a longer-term patient approach to rebuilding American competitiveness through infrastructure." In other words, addressing the damage of neoliberal economic policies and returning to investing in American workers, the national infrastructure and American competitiveness.

@John577 - You've not done a minute of research into what the Democrats have passed and how it lines up with the issues the public wants addressed. Your theories are threadbare copies of "radical" proposals dating back to the last great wave of white liberal disengagement theorists like Abbie Hoffmann. While the theatrics of the yippies and hippies gets airtime, the organizers and engaged political activists got Jim Crow unwound and passed landmark civil and voting rights legislation. The narrative you present is certainly popular political fanfic with a long pedigree, but it's not a formula for anything but more disaffection. Back democracy. Organize. Volunteer. Serve. Vote.

Democrats have passed the laws the majority wants, Republicans won't even talk about the bills. Most recently, Democrats passed two bills "expanding and strengthening background checks for gun buyers" in the the U.S. House of Representatives almost 10 months ago in March 2021. Republicans refuse to even debate the bills because they know their protection of gun industry profits that are enabled by homicidally pro-gun state laws and lax enforcement of federal gun laws is widely unpopular.
