  1. If you're struggling to explain the cruelty of Republican public policy (2:45), keep in mind it isn't a democratic ("small d") political party, it is an autocratic political party. Autocracies need their supporters to be complicit so their violent rule and discrimination is accepted. The stultifying cruelty is used as a part of a larger political strategy which requires the erasure of the shared future, and the formalization of segregation between the pro-regime faction and everyone else.
