Frighteningly, the Republican party is leveraging a similar "passive loyalty" to derive it's minority rule over the majority (Democratic members of Congress represent 42 million more Americans than do Republican ones). This loyalty is present even among the few remaining patriots they have in elected office, like Liz Cheney who, still to this day, avows that she cannot ever vote for a Democrat under any circumstances.
