  1. Pace Col Mcgregor, the theory of escalation to theatre thermonuclear weapon use was entirely about a Nato-Russia confrontation. The possible paths to use are not at all well understood for the situation Ukraine is in outside NATO and defence pact with America yet in a war with Russia, one where Russia is not doing well. In other words, Russia could--in certain circumstances--see actual use of a theatre thermonuclear weapon as the least worst option in Ukraine.
