  3. He had to extricate the US from disastrous overreach in Vietnam and act on long term goals. I don't think anyone could have managed those things better.

  4. The reason Russia had different goals was not because of the USSR being communist, but simply because Russia and America were different countries. Realism would predict that the internal political system makes no difference to how states act.

  7. He was wise about the Soviet threat and how to deal with it, but ultimately China may turn out to have been underestimated and Russia overestimated by Nixon. And absolutely everyone else.
