  1. Bremmer's advice about giving the Ukrainians what they need to drive the Russians back to their start line for this war sounds innocuous. But with the capability to push the Russians to prewar defacto border, the Ukrainians would surely not stop at that and try and drive the Russians out completely, quite possibly succeeding. It is not in the West's interests to have a humiliated Russia, yet the idea of ensuring Russia gains nothing would in practice entail it very likely loosing everything. I disagree that Russia's greatest asset is natural resources; in my opinion the strategic space of Russia is of incalculable value, especially to China. A Beijing to Moscow line or the Arctic passage from China to Europe has would transform the supply chain. |It is all very well talking about advanced democracy compared to but there are indications that China will falsify the belief that wealthy advanced democracies will always beat totalitarian states. Unless, we have an unspoken belief that Russia ought to be a democracy but the Chinese are wired different.
