Many of Russia's top commanders have been killed, and Russia conquering all Ukraine seems to be an unattainable objective now, especially given the defensive advantage conferred by the so called transparent battlefield. It would be surprising if Russia set even as a lower order objective of was trying to get men killed for an uncertain psychological or propaganda impact rather than strengthening the Russian position. Surely the more plausible explanation is the Russian commanders are being pressured to supply results and the Kremlin has a higher tolerance for the cost of those results the Russian army is actually able to achieve. In other words Russia sees neutralising Ukraine as an asset of of the anti Russian Washington alliance as essential.

  3. I don't think the evidence suggests Washington wants a total defeat of the Russian effort in Ukraine.

  4. It's more Hydra. Russian can add 100,000 trained soldiers a year. They are not losing unless more than that number of regulars are being subtracted from the Russian armed Forces though KIAs and seriously wounds and the attrition ratio greatly favors is the Ukrainian army. It is a big ask.
