  1. I never understand why people think Russia would quit because of Western resolve. If Russia did that they might as well disarm because no one would ever take them seriously again. Even the Russians would cease to take their country seriously if it could not sustain a war in Ukraine. At present, after two years the Russians are fighting to take a city only 20 miles from their borders, which is a truly bathetic performance. So no, it is not a matter of mere Western will, the self image and objective status of Russia in the world is a factor in how much will the Russians have to go on.
