  1. Probably those Ukrainian troops were mainly Russian speakers. Kiev uses them as cannon fodder. The mainly Ukrainian speaking units are kept back

  2.  @cleopatra7377  Yes and maybe that is why so many of the Russian speakers in Ukraine voted for Zelensky. The forcible drafting of Jewish men into the Russian army from where they never came back was why .so many Jews left Tsarist Russia. permanently Ukraine is going to be an ethnically pure place, but a rather empty one.
