Giuffre was never used in a criminal trial, and she lost the case against Dershowitz who she admitted she never met. At the time this deposition of Epstein was taken Trump was neither very wealthy or important. But when Epstein took the fifth about Trump, Epstein believed Trump had dropped a dime on him. So he may have been using the fifth to get back at Trump for starting the investigation. Crucially, Epstein would hardly believe Trump had dropped a dime on him if Epstein knew Trump was involved in illegal stuff, and Epstein would know.
