  2. Russia has been backward in every way for half a millennium. They never were a threat. (except to China). America is seen as a threat by many other countries, which is why they will stand by Russia. In Ukraine, Russia has propinquity: a force multiplier. They have sunk too much into the war to quit and they cannot be forced to cease fire. Its true their losses are immense relative to what they thought, but they are getting tougher and smarter all the time. Russia cannot strike West now? Correct, but whether they ever had any such intention is highly questionable.

  6. Unlike Donbass Crimea was not on the table for the 2019 deal Zelensky did a u turn on. The Russians (not without reason) regard it as inherently Russian, and are not going to accept its loss, and they have a capability to stop the Ukrainian army, if they choose to use it. I speak of a promise to use thermonuclear weapons if Crimea is being attacked, and not a vague one an explicit message to US diplomats. America will tell Ukraine to stop before Crimea. The sooner Ukraine tries to isolate Crimea, the sooner the war will end with them being denied HIMARS rockets and targeting information for them. I think they'll try Donbass first
