  3. The tactics were all wrong, but they were state of the art for the time. When the British came back they had better tactics, and proper trousers.

  4. ​ @eventhorizon3117  They retreated whenever enemy were spotted on a flank. Subsequent tactics were to stay put and fight in an all round defensive position with assigned fields of fire, and on no account fall back ..

  5. ​ @eventhorizon3117  The infantry engagements were appallingly handled. They could have made the Japs pay dearly, but whenever they tried it resulted in panicky retreats down the road, because when encountering resistance the Japs swung a hook into the jungle or plantations and the British saw that i as being outflanked and about to be surrounded. This shortcoming (in silly short trousers) was remedied by new standing orders about forming all round positions with assigned fields of fire. In sensible trousers.
