  2. Direct entry is civilians applying direct to NZSAS, as in operators not supporties otherwise you are just joining regular army and transferring to SOF support. You do not need to be an NCO to be an "assaulter" as everyone goes through the same selection, cycle and badging, be it private or Sargeant, only officers take a different path. Civilians have to do catch up courses like infantry corp training to get them to the basic military standard prior to beginning their SAS training, even some non combat trades and the other services have to do corp training depending on experience.
