It was posted by NZ defence force, could be a clue..
14
Awesome work, good to see. Train hard, fight easy.
13
Let me guess, you're an expert...
10
Air superiority from what?
7
Louis Bressenot Australias were, ours were made in France.
6
Using a rifle to fire the line seems like way more fun? Why the change?
6
@SASCAT1972 yes that is a big problem in the NZDF. If the retired equipment is slated for the museum after we are done then something is seriously wrong and is a mindset that needs to change in govt, hopefully that policy is literally a thing of the past. That is another major difference between us an Aus, they upgrade or replace a lot sooner (and better) than us and when they do replace generally up their numbers whereas we generally find ways/reasons/excuses to cut numbers. I would be at least happy with 1 for 1 but that is rare these days.
5
When are they getting the rest of the new trucks?
5
@SASCAT1972 so you are comparing ASLAV to NZLAV?? We purposely did not get ASLAV as it would have been buying into old equipment/technology instead of new and for something that literally has to last decades in service that is a bigger consideration in terms of future proofing. Just because Australia buys something does not then automatically equate to it then being cheaper for us as they generally spend more on their equipment in the first place, check out their current boxer prices as an example, difference being they have the funding to do so.
4
They already had these, this is for regular force.
4
Top knots in the navy now?..
4
9 years ago and counting? What happened to that guaranteed invasion that we needed all those frigates and destroyers for?? It's as if all these guys were full of shit? See you again in another decade and we can have another chuckle huh
3
Kain Beamsley Bit naive thinking we can just "draft" a military force if/when we need it. Something technical and major like an air combat force would take years just to get to a basic standard of operation from scratch, by then for better or worse it'll all be over.
3
@SuspiciousGreenSock we have deployed 8 of them (out of 105) operationally overseas a grand total of, 1 time, in the entire time we have had them (nearing 20 years) and that was towards the end of the mission even...hardly an issue.
3
For?
3
@slooob23 yup, thought so...
3
@anarchynz And some dragons, battle elephants and sharks with frickin lasers, maybe some iron man suits and a couple of starship Enterprises? Ooh ooh a deathstar!
3
So you don't know what a tugboat is as well?
3
Nope.
3
East Timor, Solomon Islands, Bougainville....these are just a few actual operations that required "preparation" or are you just trying to be dramatic and play the conspiracy theorist?
3
We'd be better off just keeping the ANZACs if we were going to go down that path
3
Classic, thinks he's "cooler" because, I shoot gun?...
3
The voices made them do it.
3
@snapdragon9300 well actually I would say 4 modern P8s can actually be where 6 1960 era P3s are considering you need 6 P3s just to have a few serviceable and flying, not including any other aircraft. A P3 and a P8 are very different aircraft in so many ways, capability, employability and availability are just a few...
3
30 years ago when we had 20 year old aircraft?
3
They have new packs, you can see the "old" alice packs are loaded with AGL rounds, not really your typical soldiers load...
2
@johnsmith-bv2wc Did they find out you're a dick?
2
@iatsd huh? 3 pips is not a lieutenant, it's the padre, hence the sash. So what trade was Luke out of interest?
2
Nah why not 174 more? Just in case...
2
Replace the frigates with frigates AND get an absalon to replace the long lost and needed 3rd frigate (we once had 4). More options, literally, and an easier sell than just another pure frigate. We still need proper frigates though but we also could do with more sealift so win win. Could even make the frigates Ivers for commonalitys sake.
2
Watch too many movies during lockdown did we?
2
@damolux3388 when was that?
2
America has the most powerful air force on the planet, how did that go stopping 9/11? It did'nt. Another stupid comment.
2
How well does the steyr work in the sea?....
2
@NickyKDChaleunphone haha what?? When has NZ begged Australia to send fighters to cover our airspace champ?? You are literally just making up scenarios just to suit your rhetoric, you been watching too many movies there wardog, next you'll be saying we should get submarines to fight off the Russian subs when they invade Auckland harbour!
2
Is that the wishlist?
2
@mattyallen3396 he's a muppet?
2
He was the padre.
2
Haha what?
2
@ethanshore6775 haha what are you smoking??
1
@KIWI2theNight so what's another NH90 going to do about that? The EEZ is ironically not a landmass.
1
Why? For ze Germans or just cos they look cool? Did'nt even use the ones we had so waste of money much?
1
spec units
1
Still Awake nz haha good one, I saw that movie as well, could have done with a few more dragons I reckon
1
@patriotlegionRS yes they are, yes they are
1
And what would we use these attack helicopters for? Let me guess, attacking stuff...um cool?
1
@KIWI2theNight nope, quite the opposite actually, spent 14 years in the military sooo...
1
@KIWI2theNight yup, just a realist, a lot more important capabilities we could/would use (as in actually use) before attack helicopters.
1
@KIWI2theNight that's about as pointless as attack helicopters, probably use it just as often as well and make for a pretty boring air show, you know pretty much the only reason we had jets for?
