  39.  @raymondquinton5960  @45 of the best and obviously flyable aircraft were taken to Uzbekistan and Tajikistan by their Afghan pilots, many were actually already destroyed in the fighting and considering a good number of the 200 were already in differing levels of dis-repair by their own admission exactly how many aircraft do you think the Taliban have operational? So far I have seen 1 blackhawk? Hardly what I would call an Air force and tbh I give even that 3-6 months before it is grounded without proper and on going maintenance.

  40. They disabled all THEIR equipment at THEIR bases and Kabul international when they pulled out, this is the Afghan armys equipment and the Afghan army was pretty big when it fell over, just like how Afghanistan, the country, is a pretty big place...

If the retired equipment is slated for the museum after we are done then something is seriously wrong and is a mindset that needs to change in govt, hopefully that policy is literally a thing of the past. That is another major difference between us an Aus, they upgrade or replace a lot sooner (and better) than us and when they do replace generally up their numbers whereas we generally find ways/reasons/excuses to cut numbers. I would be at least happy with 1 for 1 but that is rare these days.

We purposely did not get ASLAV as it would have been buying into old equipment/technology instead of new and for something that literally has to last decades in service that is a bigger consideration in terms of future proofing. Just because Australia buys something does not then automatically equate to it then being cheaper for us as they generally spend more on their equipment in the first place, check out their current boxer prices as an example, difference being they have the funding to do so.

Anything after that was just nation building and helping the new Afghan govt and military establish itself, and everyone knew that was not going to go on forever so is literally upto Afghanistan now and pretty much has been for the past decade or so.

Poland use the same jets as Ukraine (mig-29) and also have US jets (f-16) as well so the deal was for Poland to give the Ukranians the migs and then the US would then replace them with f-16s. It's the implications for Poland (or anyone for that matter) from Russia of giving Ukraine the jets not the actual jets themselves as Russia has essentially said it is an act of war.

We don't have nearly half the issues Australia seems to have but that is helicopters in general, even the venerable hueys had their issues, I know, spent 10 years working with them, obviously not as many as the NH90 but then it is by far a more complex beast. Australia seems to create a lot of their own problems as well, just look at the tiger and seasprite projects, which ironically we now operate, as in not just seasprites but the actual seasprites Australia could not get working. They generally like to over complicate systems and procedures which obviously has repercussions.

There are a lot more roles in the navy, both at home and around the world, than just watching over aircraft carriers or even hunting submarines. The terms putting all your eggs in one basket, jack of all trades master of none and overkill all come to mind in these financially unstable times and numbers have a quality of their own ie 5-6 T31s or 2 T26s, either either not both as even MOD funding has it's limits.

The US gave the Afghan military simple equipment and even dumbed that down for many reasons, simplicity of training, ease of maintenance, cost and yes even this, falling into enemy hands. All this is modern and lethal in Afghanistan but basic and ineffective in any outside modern battlefield, even their immediate neighbours are not worried and would easily destroy all this equipment (whatever isn't already).

  217. Direct entry is civilians applying direct to NZSAS, as in operators not supporties otherwise you are just joining regular army and transferring to SOF support. You do not need to be an NCO to be an "assaulter" as everyone goes through the same selection, cycle and badging, be it private or Sargeant, only officers take a different path. Civilians have to do catch up courses like infantry corp training to get them to the basic military standard prior to beginning their SAS training, even some non combat trades and the other services have to do corp training depending on experience.

These were literally from the desert stockpiles. Good for some sightseeing tours in the mountains perhaps but even then, Afghanistan was a challenging environment for even experienced pilots and pushed equipment to it's limits due the the hot and high and unforgiving desert conditions. Even if any of that "fails" the veh is still driveable just less comfortable/adjustable, like a fulltime humvee. These are not new features, just new compared to a 1980s era hummer, days of sitting on blocks are over.

Survivability is more in terms of the occupants not necessarily the actual vehicle and you are more likely to blow off an entire wheel set rather than just a subset on that wheel. Even if a landmine did somehow just target the height adjustment portion of a wheel assembly and it was still able to drive then all that would happen is the vehicle will drop to it's lowest setting anyway, still driveable just uncomfortable. And yes I have driven in combat situations, more likely to become stuck in mud then have a particular feature ie height adjustment taken out by combat action that would not disable any vehicle otherwise.

The US kitted the ANA and air force relatively basically on purpose, and for very good reasons, exactly what has happened being the main one. This is all basic kit, even the blackhawks were UH-60As, the very first model from the 80s. Whilst they have a lot of kit it's all outdated and literally the only good it is for is themselves, against each other, if they can keep what they have left going that is.

Considering a single C-17 lifted off with over 800 people alone and that C-17s were flying in and out constantly (not 1 an hour either) It's really not that hard to believe at all. They were only flying out to nearby staging countries where airliners flew them onto other countries and then flew back in, they were not refuelling in Kabul as they didn't need too, literally just land, load up and leave. Our aircraft that flew in only spent 30mins on the ground before leaving and there were multiple aircraft on the tarmac at any one time. Kabul was the main international airport for the entire country so it can handle a lot of aircraft at once, definately more than 1 747 an hour haha (not that any 747s flew in anyway).

If you think China even cares about humvees, M4 rifles, blackhawks or even MRAPs you are either underestimating Chinas technology or overestimating Afghanistans.

Which in itself is weird considering @45 are sitting in Uzbekistan, another 70+ were disabled by US forces in Kabul alone (I assume US forces know how to disable their own gear) not including those disabled at the other bases by the retreating Afghan air force (remembering they were the more educated of the services), a few helos flew to panjshir with commandos, a few more were shot down by Taliban at the start, pics of mi24s missing engines and blades, the list goes on...but yea, (a) blackhawk. I think the numbers are a little inflated to say the least tbh. They may have a lot of hulks good for paper weights perhaps but a viable working air force? No defenders flying, no tucanos flying as these were the most "offensive" platforms with pylon weapons, attack capability etc etc. Well what can I say, call me sceptical.
