  2.  @sany7737  I know the etymology, thank you. I happen to be Scottish and also speak German. We use the term "dumb" in this country to refer to "deaf and dumb" meaning unable to speak. It's a term for disabled people in this country. We have plenty of our own words for it without using "dumb" – stupid, dense, thick, glaikit, silly, light/licht etc etc.
