Magnitogorsk will be familiar to many students of the Soviet Union. It was pretty much a model for many other planned settlements, and probably one of the most successful, although it became a closed city under Stalin.

@jalijali8448 I think Yakutsk is colder than Norilsk, even though it is further south. Norilsk is by the sea, so gets some warming from that.

I only did basic chemistry but it was pretty horrific.

They even say you should be careful with household products like oven cleaners and toilet supplies.

@writerbill1 I've even heard horror stories about people mixing household chemicals, creating poisonous fumes etc.

@darenzy You can use cars on an island, so why not a city without much in the way of external road connections? There are roads within the city and the immediate surrounding areas.

@olivere5497 About the size of Slovenia, AFAIK, but it's not huge. Easily has potential for becoming a finance and gambling hub, if it weren't for the Russian government and the situation.

@ffarmchicken The First World? Have you seen it recently? Papers please mentality everywhere. Kangarooland is even building camps FFS. There are ones in the NT, Victoria, Queensland, and probably NSW. They aren't for 'asylum seekers".
