@JodieBarbwireHeart Tribal peoples in the Pacific region had a variety of experiences from full contact to no contact, to "John Frum" cargo cults to full assimilation. Some of them must have seen or heard it in the distance with bewilderment. As I understand it, at least some of these people were from Taiwan (no idea what percentage), and were indigenous to the island. (Taiwan was settled by the Chinese and conquered by Japan, but still retains some indigenous people.) The Japanese names disguise that fact. If they came from primitive communities in Taiwan it might explain how they could survive in other island jungles. Some of them were true Japanese but not all.

@christianabsalonperez8451 There are also issues like humidity and dirt, meaning any cut is infected quickly, and a lot of biting insects.

That's the imperial flag. What you call the "modern flag" had always been in use.
2
I doubt they just drank that. Probably groundwater and rainwater too. If you have enough sand it will filter out some of the salt. Loving the woke flag by the way. Let's get intersectional oppression out of the way, comrade! Make capitalist society unworkable by dividing everyone into smaller and smaller groups and getting them to fight one another!

Several of these soldiers were not ethnic Japanese despite the name. Maybe they didn't want to pay taxes? Either way, bandits.

It's really not that simple at all. They would have missed the Emperor's annoucement.

@dda40x1 There are multiple problems. You'd have to be on the right frequencies at the right times, and they'd be paranoid that the radio would give away their location. They could triangulate signals even in the 1940s.
1
@dda40x1 p.s. What Arran/Thoughty2 says about the broadcast is quite accurate. I'm told by Japanese speakers that a lot of people struggled to understand Hirohito since he spoke Court Japanese. The signal was also bad and a lot of ordinary Japanese didn't have anything to hear it on. Some Japanese even killed themselves when they heard it.
1
@dda40x1 The chain of command would have disappeared shortly after VJ Day, for one reason or another, so it would be unclear if anyone was listening. I think with others some kind of psychosis arose in them, which meant you couldn't reason with them logically. Some of them may not have wanted to go back either
1
@dda40x1 How much experience do you have with ham radios/CB etc? Not one of these arguments has fallen apart.
1
Except they were hiding in dense jungle.
1
Maybe they didn't want to pay taxes?

I smell a lack of punctuation.
1
@vasudevmenon9568 anyone can write like this even if it makes you look like a moron no one cares because you just get a continuous sting of text which reads like a stream of consciousness experiment Punctuation is your friend. Use it.

If you shave off that hair you end up looking like a child.

Don't encourage this crap.

The US political system is laughable. It only allows two parties to win, but at least that's one more than North Korea, right?
1
A lot of the Japanese had no concept of surrender and preferred suicide.
1
The nukes were a power demonstration to the Soviets, like Dresden was (since it would have been one of the Eastern German cities the Red Army would enter first.)
1
Your two party system is ridiculous. But at least you have one more party allowed than North Korea, eh?
1
@freedomdealer9839 There should be multiple parties in the USA. Yes, I know the Libertarians and Greens exist, but they're not even also-rans. The Republicans and Democrats are always in power at some level and can't be removed or challenged.

His sponsors are awful.

😲

Maybe for you. The Japanese effectively started WW2 with their invasions of Manchuria in the thirties. Europe only went into war in 1939, and the USA waited two more years so the other countries could take the brunt of the fighting.

Parkinsons

The Americans dropped the nukes. Thoughty2 is not American.

Or the psychological implications of how removing body hair downstairs makes your lover look as they have never gone through puberty.
1
I keep saying this, but others keep encouraging him. I don't want to look like a little boy downstairs.
1
A Marxist? They keep trying to set up their disgusting political system again and again, even though it has never succeeded anywhere... And they're all over universities in one form or another.
1
These sponsors get worse everyday.
1
It really wasn't.
1
That's questionable. The A Bombs were to scare the Soviets. Japan feared a German scenario where American troops would fight their way across the country street by street.
1
Not really. About the nearest parallels would be the right wing partisans fighting the Soviet government in the Ukraine into the 1950s, and some of those Nazis who fled into South America.
1
Your "edgy" take is shared by half the posters on here. It's also questionable. The Japanese authorities realised that the Emperor could easily be killed and the Americans would be fighting their way across the country street by street or field by field as happened in Germany.
1
That's whataboutery, and irrelevant to this video. The Japanese did do some of the worst things in the war. Also if you wish to be politically correct, it was the Soviets not the Russians. Most people in the USSR were not Russian and Stalin certainly wasn't.
