  3.  @HarshitRautela  You have my sympathy about (c) - I had an article stolen from me and put on someone's blog. They barely tried to rewrite it. I never gave permission and I had submitted it to a paying magazine previously. Unfortunately, there are a number of these things. The public probably don't know about most of them but there are certainly some nuclear reactors and bombs which have been lying under the sea, and also nuclear waste that has seeped into groundwater etc.

It is a bad idea to put plutonium near the source of the Ganges considering how many people (and plants and animals) live near it.

  19.  @ugyentshering4589  I don't deny it is faulty, but I'm struggling to think of any country which is as democratic as it pretends to be. This current situation has shown that up - not only do most supposed democracies have contempt for their populace, they also take orders from undemocratic global structures, from business leaders and bankers in low-key international conferences and are also planning to take away many liberties permanently. The western "democracies" stifle independent candidates, most new political parties, have large media organisations which manipulate the public and suppress inconvenient news stories. (Did you know there were big protests in London recently against the government there? No, I don't mean BLM or Kill the Bill. The BBC never reported them.) Our governments want us all to have smartphone with QR codes which we will need to access basic services. And it will get worse. Nothing democratic about it.

  20.  @ugyentshering4589  Most "democracies" bring in policies which come out of an annual conference in Switzerland, and much more obscure organisations. It's why the same policies keep appearing across the world at the same time. They don't come from the public or national parliaments.

We know what they should be, but I don't know any which fulfil the definition, and India, by the way, is probably nowhere near the worst country calling itself a democracy. Bribery and corruption is widespread. Western countries are better at hiding it than India, but why do you think so many American presidents, British etc prime ministers become so rich after they leave power? Prime ministers don't get paid very much when they are in office, but they are owned by big business. The Chinese government lies routinely. It claims it has fewer deaths than the UK. Do you genuinely believe that? It is a dictatorship in which officials alter figures to impress those above them, and the government itself has to lie to stop its population rebelling. We do know for a fact that China allowed people to travel out of the country, while it stopped travel between provinces. So Beijing knowingly allowed Cvid to spread throughout the world. Some people say the Chinese deaths are at least 10x higher than they are admitting. By the way, I do not live in the USA. But QR code ID are a form of enslavement, as is what they lead to. The government should not be allowed to follow people everywhere or control what they can do. That's even worse than Communism, and it will.get worse as time goes on.

  22.  @ugyentshering4589 p.s. Digital ID is being pushed by the W.o*r.ld E,c.o.*n.om.ic . Fo*r.um - that's where these codes come from. It is an undemocratic international body run which controls most world leaders along with several other organisations we rarely hear about. A hundred countries are talking about. Do you think the "democratic" ones all came up with the idea independently by popular demand? No, of course they didn't. The banks and businesses which run that organisation did. I can't even type its name properly since there is a filter on it which sometimes kicks in. But it's real.

  23. There are a few up there. When I went trekking in Nepal some years ago, a plane crash site was pointed out to me. I was already suffering from altitude sickness, so I couldn't go higher, unfortunately. They're known in many cases, but retrieval costs are too high.

  27.  @HarshitRautela  Watershed would be a better word here than source, I suppose. Maybe headwaters. Rivers tend to start from multiple sources, just like they often end in multiple streams (deltas)... It is very worrying that something like this is so near to a water source for millions. The Soviet Union (and probably China) was very bad when it came to developing nuclear weapons and power. There are large areas of Russia which have contaminated by their nuclear programme. Like the USA and UK, many of their nukes were tested in the desert, but they also contaminated streams, rivers and marshland with radiation. I agree with you about sewage and other contaminants. But at least nature can absorb sewage. Other chemicals and radiation are more difficult to deal with.

  29. Because it is notoriously difficult to use helicopters in this terrain at these altitudes in bad conditions. The terrain is also incredibly complex.

Who knows what the military possesses, but it is a hostile environment - very thin air (bad for helicopters), strong and unpredictable air turbulence (thanks to hot and cold areas in close proximity), extremely complex terrain which extends in several dimensions, rockfalls/avalanche potential and it is also close to Chinese airspace. That and the device could be under a thousand tonnes of rock making it hard to find.

It murdered 60 million in living memory, and recent events show that they are willing to lie about their statistics and endanger other countries. They have always treated their people like dirt. Also, this contanimation would likely affect Tibet, and would also be used by them for propaganda purposes.

  35. I suppose it would depend where it was. The problem is that the box could actually be swept away by heavy flooding. I suppose hypothetically, it could create a pool of hot or warm water, which a larger sheet of ice could slide over and start to melt. It happens with volcanic vents all the time. If it was stuck in a rocky crevasse it could theoretically heat the water going through it too.

  36.  @earendil261  I've tried a few thought experiments on how it might be possible. Most of them consist of the device producing a hot stream of water, which in turn melts ice wherever it flows. The nearest analogy I can think of is Iceland where they have jókullhlaup (I think that's right), where a volcano melts the glacier above it, sending out a massive flood. Obviously, that would be a much bigger heat source, and would work more rapidly. I think Mount Saint Helens did something similar... But you are right, it is hard to think how this could happen. However, the device is a concern because it is supposedly lying near the top of the watershed for a major Indian river, which means there are serious contamination issues. p.s. Plant leaves, sand, lotions etc all have their problems. It's not like Hindu countries are renowned for their hygiene. Quite the opposite. India has a reputation for being one of the dirtiest places on Earth. By the way, people do use tissues to clean stuff off their faces and bodies. It is simply too time consuming to use them all over your body.

  43.  @yumyum3951  My replies keep being censored. The brief version is you need to look closer to home before criticising others. There is a reason nearly all foreign visitors there develop violent diarrhoea within a day or two. It's down to local hygiene. Or lack of it.

Anyone from there lecturing the world on hygiene lacks self-awareness. I'd take advice from Japanese or Singaporeans, but your lot, just no. It is a very dirty place, in general, and the heat doesn't help.
