Iâve only met one badger in person, and we tried to remove him from our barn as it had killed a few chickens and rabbits. 2 wounded and 1 dead dog later (labs and a Sheppard) thought me a new respect for them. Fearless is an understatement. Dad brought his .22 gun and fired a few shots, which only served to piss the thing off even more. It wasnât a honey badger, it was an American badger. Meeting it might be just a childhood memory, but it was unforgettable.

@Misael8924 â Yes, the labs were not the most aggressive, and I was about 10 or 11. If you kicked the hell out of one, good for you, you soccer stud you.

@neilpemberton5523 â Reading comprehension isnât one of your strengths is it? 𤣠3 wounded, one died later. Dad didnât âletâ it. Dad tried to stop it, we (kids) tried to choral the dogs, and dad fired a few shots at it, which didnât seem to have much effect. May I suggest you find one and try to stop it from doing anything? They are fierce, Go troll elsewhere.

@neilpemberton5523 â Please re-read my original, unedited post.

@xshowda â True, my dads .22 didnât seem to phase it, it seemed like a bee sting.

@AnnusMirabilus â Like a Dachshund? Labs are smart hunting dogs, and can be formidable when they want to be. All I know is badgers are IMHO proof of natures perfection, that thing was low to the ground, pure muscle, very thick dense coat/fur, and while I wasnât there to see it happen, it bit through a dogs leg with apparent ease. My money is on the badger. đ

@FreddySaySo â Seriously? A .308 is similar to a .30-06 round used for large game like deer. Ten?! Holy hell!

@suki suki â Dachshunds kill a badger? đ¤Łđđ˝ I am aware of the breeding history and purpose, but just canât see it happening.

@Georgesspierre â Did you troll Neil Pemberton on purpose? That was hilarious! âthatâs the dumbest thing i have ever red.â You just made my day! đ¤Ł

@suki suki â You werenât there, and the dog wasnât killed instantly. It was bit near the shoulder and was bleeding out, so my dad put it down. A single .22 shot to the head put the dog down, but 2 or 3 shots to he badger just pissed it off. Iâm not doubting you, I remember reading about dachshunds history (among other breeds) long ago, Iâm just saying that what I saw that day gave me a lifetime respect for badgers.

@johnraymond5281 â As previously mentioned yes they do âhuntâ badgers. They are small and can get into their burrows and draw them out for the hunters to shoot them. I didnât know that either.

@joeaguirre7074 â Except that I may have goofed. In hindsight Iâm not sure if it was a badger or a wolverine. I thought dad said it was a badger, but several comments have me questioning my memory. But thanks anyway!

@neilpemberton5523 -- The dogs found it, we followed their barking to the barn. Sadly, we didn't notice one of the dogs had been badly bitten until after the commotion was over.

@Realcordy -- It was a lab/golden mix that had to be put down. She was a beautiful dog, and as sweet as she was protective. When we found her afterwards dad said it was too late, that she'd lost too much blood. I say that because I'm not sure 'killed by the badger' was correct, she was seriously wounded and had to be put down as we were hours away from the Vet.

@ â PLAYâď¸ And yes, Iâm glad too! LOL! Now. As an adult I know it was just trying to survive and we had his food in cages. I remember its ferocity, fearlessness and growls. When dad shot it it was as if it was a bee sting, đ and just made it more pissed. LOL!
