  1. As a kid I had to write a paper on the civil wars Andersonville prison, that report marked the end of my naive childhood. Please don’t do a report on it, what we did to our fellow Americans will give you nightmares, it is a story with no redeeming qualities.

  2. Steven Martin & Leslie Franklin — Agree with both of you, it shouldn’t be forgotten. But damn, is it a bone chilling history and statement of America and what man is capable of doing to one another. The horrors and survivors personal accounts I read as part of my research were scary, true stories more horrific than has ever been put out by Hollywood.

And yes, just like war crimes, every nation in every war, including the USA and its allies have committed war crimes and atrocities in every war in history. I think researching the first hand accounts, even letters home from confederate guards, told of such vivid, visceral bloody horrible actions I can still remember to this day how i just felt gutted reading their accounts. I was seriously disturbed by their stories, I can remember hating doing that research because it just made me ill thinking and reading what was done to them, and how the guards bragged about doing things today we would find unconscionable. That you both lost or had relatives that lived through that.... damn. That must make it still feel so personal for you both.
