Actually… I believe they targeted Hiroshima and Nagasaki because of the weapons plants in each. The USA did not target a city just for maximum damage or effect.

All I know is the documentation from the meetings that led to the decision to bomb stated the Japanese civilian populations training to fight, their demonization of the enemy through propaganda, and that estimates expected as many millions of civilian casualties and hundreds of thousands of US Troops lost. That was their reasoning to bomb instead of invade. But yes, the “effect” was to end the war. Keep in mind that Japan refused to surrender before and after the first bomb. It took two.

@notbraindead7298 — Hiroshima and Nagasaki DID have weapons and vehicle/aviation manufacturing facilities. This has never been question by anyone other than you. And while there were civilian populations there, the bombing saved lives. They had calculated casualties at several million for a ground attack, the two bombs took about 200k lives. Sad, absolutely. “America’s bad” we will have to agree to disagree.
