@vvm101 — No silly. Impeachment is a two step process. 1. House of Representatives votes to impeach. 2. The Senate votes to confirm, essentially saying that what he was impeached for warrants removal from office. We have never had a President impeached, the closest we have had was Nixon, who resigned when he was told the senate had enough votes to remove him from office. In Trumps first impeachment the Senate waived witness testimony, saying it was not necessary, they admitted to the presidents crimes. They said they weren’t there to determine his guilt, that had been done, they (the senate) were there to determine if those crimes warranted removal from office. The senate voted no, the crimes (withholding aid to Ukraine and obstructing the investigation) were NOT grounds for removal from office. Of course Trump spun it as he was found innocent, completely exonerated, which was completely false. Grey area I know, but that’s politics. If the senate passes the trial phase, even though it seems pointless as it will be after January 20th, then Trump would be ineligible to run for public office again. Hope this helps.
