  1. You just gotta love American Politics, we allow all Telecommunications companies to create a "Telecom-PAC," (PAC is a Political Action Committee) which they in turn encourage their employee's to donate to. We allow those companies to then reimburse their employee's expenses, which essentially renders the cap's, the maximum a company can donate to political campaigns irrelevant. Those combined Telecommunications companies PAC is one of the biggest and most active in the nation, and work with politicians in every state, and at a national level to pass legislation that profits those telecommunications companies. The result is laws passed outlawing public utilities from getting into anything that the Telecom industry doesn't want them to, so the telecom companies face less competition and can charge higher prices. Then, again based on laws passed, those companies are under no obligation to provide anything faster than dialup service to people in rural areas. Why? Because the cost per mile per customer is much higher outside of a densely populated city. So the telecommunications companies have literally lobbied national and state politicians to lock up the telecommunications market, ending competition, allowing them to charge higher prices and deliver less service, by paying politicians massive perks for voting the way Telecommunications companies want them to. So in America, in a free market, telecommunications companies have defeated America's "Free Market" by passing laws that protect them against competition. Did I miss anything?
