Yes, and he was told that the national guard reported to the state governor, not the President. Trump then tried to use the military but was informed that his staff would resign one by one rather than follow that order. Trump said the reason he wanted troops was “to support his people.”

@MikeW165 — Trump did try to call in (activate) the National Guard, and was told he couldn’t, they reported to the governor. Then Trump tried to call in the US military.
