@sunnysied713 — I think you missed his point. They were the original island inhabitants, THEY were the natives. They weren’t slaves, but felt like the only options were Slavery or to join the United States. And frankly, he has a very valid point. They were slowly taken over by missionaries, who became profitable by using the local population and the islands to become rich and powerful, eventually displacing government leaders, and changing the leadership, even the nationality of the country. So... whites took over and did essentially enslave the citizens, who worked to make the new immigrants rich and powerful resulting in a change in their heritage.
